This work addresses the science-based concept of solastalgia, a term blending solace and nostalgia. It is defined as homesickness while at home, and the resulting sadness when familiar landscapes are transformed and disrupted in unexpected ways. Urban, suburban and rural development, habitat destruction, the changing climate, and the loss of local landmarks can lead to disorientation, upending our sense of place as our surroundings disappear.
